Study or work

STUDY

I am currently studying in a school / college in Chandigarh. My course name is Bachelors of arts / commerce / b tech etc.

My childhood dream was to study mathematics or English or science and that is the reason I chose the _____________ course. Studying math for me is like a therapy, I feel relaxed even after studying math for hours at length.

Things were quite different when I had to study languages. It was quite a struggle and often very confusing especially the grammar rules.

My college is an amazing place. Its spread over a large area and all facilities like classrooms, hospital / clinic, playground, library, canteen are inside the campus area. This makes life easy as travelling around the city is definitely a hassle. The facilities are tech based and state of the art and I believe them to be at par with best in the country. Besides regular study and exams, extracurricular activities are quite regular.

There aren't many things I dislike about the college campus but connectivity with public transport can surely be improved upon. Since the campus is on the outskirts of city, it is relatively new zone so commuting in public transport is cumbersome. Things are improving and I am sure there will be a quick improvement on that front too.

 WORK

I am currently working with ABC company as a Sales Manager. My department is marketing and my job involves dealing with different people, generating leads and converting them in to successful sales.

The day at work mostly begins with a quick briefing from my seniors. We exchange ideas about the plan for the day and an update on status of monthly targets. I maintain a diary with notes about things to do in order to keep track of my pending tasks. This makes me go easy and keep feeling better with every task completed.

Like any other office, some days are tougher than others. Challenges are an inseparable part of work life. I remember when one of my peers had to go on a short leave to attend to his ailing father. I took it upon myself to fill his shoes in addition to my own responsibilities. Initially, it looked like an uphill task but with patience, time management and help from my seniors, I was able to fulfill my duties and ended up winning a lot of appreciation from the management.

During Covid, we were all exposed to the new work culture called WFH which is Work from home. Most of my peers were clueless about how to approach this new style but eventually got attuned to it like the rest of the world. Not only that, it felt a lot better than offline office because of time with parents, no travelling, no wardrobe thoughts and endless supply of hot tea and great homemade food. The only thing that I can think of which was disturbing, was the presence of my dog and his unprovoked barking. During office meeting online and serious discussions that was surely a distraction but a cute one.

Our office is maintained with best of the standard practices professionally especially work ethics, hygiene and security. If I had to change one thing, that would be to ban plastics in office. Most of the employees are young and live away from their hometown. So, they have no option but to order food online and after the lunch time we can see a lot of plastic plates, boxes and spoons. The negative effects of plastic are well known, that's one thing I would definitely like to change in my workplace.
