Governments should spend money on railways rather than roads. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

STRONGLY AGREE:

The tremendous rise in levels of infrastructure development is testament to the rising value of transportation modes and the concomitant effectivity. There is a prevalent argument about the priority of budget allocation between railways in comparison to roads and highways. In my opinion, I strongly agree with the given notion with train connectivity contributes majorly in industrial logistics as well as passenger travel and shall elaborate on it in the upcoming paragraphs with the help of suitable supporting ideas.

Rail networks are created to provide connectivity between various regions on large scale and nationwide, serving the purpose of transporting materials and commuting citizens. The primary contribution of effective railway network supports the manufacturing sector of any economy to ensure timely and safe delivery of goods to various regions, which is directly related to job creation, economic development of any nation. Better railways infrastructure and availability of seats can boost it as preferred mode of transport, and can lead to reducing the number of vehicles on road, in line with the government’s aim. To illustrate, In New York, subway is the preferred mode of transport for commuters because of the excellent services provided by the local government, making the city listed in the top metropolitans in the world.

The public transport, in addition to convenience of lifestyle, also can act as time and money saving option for general public. Train networks are a quick and seamless mode of transport especially in metro cities ensuring travelers save travel time. Moreover, the financial viability of public transport like railways, especially in long distance travel, is unmatched and provides invaluable cost savings leaving more for the citizens to spend on health and lifestyle. For example, during my university studies in Mumbai, I availed student discount provided by the government which helped me save time and money.

To reiterate, it is evident that intelligent fund allocation on train infrastructure is essential for any government to provide ease of access and generate positive return on investment.

STRONGLY DISAGREE:

The tremendous rise in levels of infrastructure development is a testament to the rising value of transportation modes and the concomitant effectivity. There is a prevalent argument about the priority of budget allocation in favor of railways in comparison to roads and highways. In my opinion, I strongly disagree with the given notion and shall elaborate on it in the upcoming paragraphs with the help of suitable supporting ideas.

Road networks are one of the most significant parameters to rate the infrastructure of any country in terms of ease of travel and supply chain effectivity primarily because of the limitless reach and direct impact on the citizens of a nation. Apart from connecting various cities and villages with each other, it acts as a lifeline to millions of commuters for various commercial and non-commercial purposes. Moreover, government spending on ameliorating road connectivity and increasing facilities like safety and security can boost business development like manufacturing, services and residential housing, in addition to the levy collected from every traveler in the form of road toll. For example, development of housing and educational institutions in Greater Chandigarh grew manifold after the development of new road and highways connecting it with Chandigarh and rest of Punjab.

In comparison to other modes of public transport, the road travel offers far more flexibility and convenience for commuters to choose timings, routes and halts. Furthermore, it is an ease to maintain and an extremely viable financial investment for government because addition to road networks gives opportunity to people to explore new areas which previously was not possible due to lack of approachable roads and highways. For example, development of Atal tunnel as the highest underground tunnel has connected Manali city to the areas of Leh-Ladakh and doubled the number of tourists compared to last year.

To reiterate, it is evident that intelligent fund allocation on roads infrastructure is essential for any government to provide ease of access to citizens and generate positive return on investment.

PARTIALLY AGREE:

The tremendous rise in levels of infrastructure development is testament to the rising value of transportation modes and the concomitant effectivity. There is a prevalent argument about the priority of budget allocation in favor of railways in comparison to roads and highways. In my opinion, I partially agree with the given notion as road networks contribute more to the citizens life while railways continue to be imperative for nation’s development, and shall elaborate on it in the upcoming paragraphs with the help of suitable supporting ideas.

To embark with, road networks are the most significant parameters to rate the infrastructure of any country in terms of ease of travel and supply chain effectivity primarily because of the limitless reach and direct impact on the citizens of a nation.
