Every generation promotes innovation and embodies exclusive trends, especially in dynamic fields like media and communication. A section of society, however, believes that customary style of printed and paper-based news material will reduce drastically and modern sources of data and information will thrive. In my opinion, the electronic media sources have a leading role in this area and orthodox methods of news dissemination would never be completely substituted.

To embark with, innovative media platforms have offered stiff competition to the traditional modes of media. The stupendous growth of internet has paved way for faster access to reading materials like books, journals and current affairs of the world in real time with electronic gadgets catalysing the process. With the majority of citizens motivated to refer to a variety of alternative sources instantaneously to get information rather than depending on one daily or weekly publication, it is obvious that technology as a medium to read and learn will continue to expand. To exemplify, as per a recent survey there is a significant increase in the e-newspaper subscription of Hindustan Times whereas the printed newspaper subscribers numbers are stagnant.

Nevertheless, there is a large portion of people who prefer the traditional mode to obtain news and read about their favourite topics like cinema, sports and general knowledge. In addition to being habitual in reading paper-based material, individuals are vary of the detrimental effects of screen time on eye and mental health. Moreover, choosing to replace the newspaper and books with internet-based media requires investment in terms of internet accessibility, hardware in the form of computers or tablets which is not desirable for all members of the society.

In conclusion, the contemporary trends are more in favour of technology-based access of news and information but the usage of conventional forms is also sustainable.
